SHAN is now Managing Director of Trilogic Sdn Bhd. He sits on the Board of Trustees, the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER) and the international/ national advisory panel to the Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (ASLI). He served at the Treasury, Ministry of Finance from 1962 to 1978 as Deputy Secretary (Economic), and at Petronas from 1979 to 1991 as General Manager. He is a Fellow of the Economic Development Institute, World Bank, Washington DC. He was on the Board of Selectors, Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University, the Committee of the Malaysian Administrative and Diplomatic Service (PTD) Alumni Association; VIOBA Foundation board and chairman of its Scholarship Committee. He was a Director of several publicly listed companies.
On invitation by Harvard Univ. he helped in the design of a new Executive Program for Leaders in Development: Managing Economic and Political Reform developed jointly by Kennedy School of Government and Harvard Institute for International Development, Harvard Univ, Cambridge, Mass, USA.
He was Adviser, Hextar Holdings Bhd. He was an independent Non-Executive Director of Delloyd Ventures Berhad (DVB). He was Chairman of the Remuneration Committee and also sat on the Audit and Nomination Committees of the Board.
He was a Director of Edaran Otomobil Nasional Berhad (EON) and Chairman of its Remuneration Committee, PBA holdings Bhd and Mamee-Double Decker (M) Bhd all listed on the Main Board. He was also on the Board of CIMB (Commerce International Merchant Bankers) (L) Ltd, CIMB Discount House Bhd, CIMB Securities Sdn Bhd, MIDF Aberdeen Asset Management Sdn Bhd, and Malaysian International Merchant Bankers Berhad (MIMB), a subsidiary of MIDF and an associate of Barclays Bank Group, UK. He was on the Committee of the Malaysian Administrative and Diplomatic Service (P.T.D.) Alumni Association.
He represented Malaysia at international conferences of the ADB (Asian Development Bank), the Commonwealth, IMF (the International Monetary Fund), OPEC (the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries), the United Nations and the World Bank. He was the Chairman and lead speaker at several sittings of PECC (Pacific Economic Co-operation Conference).
